Vayots Dzor is one of the Southern regions of Armenia. The region is 1000-2300 meters high above sea level.

The most part of its territory is highland without woods and only 20% of the soil is being cultivated. Yeghegia and Arpa rivers flow through the territory of the region. The center of the region Yeghegnadzor is situated on the bank of Arpa river. The town is full of fruit trees. In Yeghegnadzor there are monuments preserved from 1 millennium BC to 17 th century. This region is famous for its historical monuments and several ruins of ancient settlements.

ARENI – In Vayots Dzor region wine making has a history of 2000-2500 years. Areni is one of the oldest and famous villages, located on the banks of the Arpa river, which is famous by wine factories. Areni wine is made from Areni grape variety which is a result of natural selection on the land area situated 1000-1200m above sea level. The winery produces the following two wines: Red dry table wine and Red table semi dry wine. These wines are made by the local traditional methods, which have been known since time immemorial.

The church of the Holy Mother of God is located in Areni and was founded in 1321. It has been the cultural and spiritual center in the region of Vayots Dzor.

NORAVANAK – is a remarkable architectural monastery complex of the 13th-14th centuries. Noravank is located in Noravank canyon, in the southern part of the region. This wonderful canyon is rich with rare flora, medical herbs, wild fruits, springs. In the beginning of the 13th century Noravank was the famous cultural and spiritual center of Syunik District and the Orbelee princes residence.

THE CARAVANSERAI OF SELIM in medieval Armenia numerous buildings had been built along commercial routes for the accommodation of travelers. One of those, the caravanserai of Selim, was built in 1332. This caravanserai offered hospitality to travelers who used the highway crossing the Selim (Soulema) mountains. It is the best preserved of all medieval caravanserais in Armenia.
GLADZOR – famous University Gladzor was founded in 1280 is situated 5 km from Yeghegnadzor to the North. Gladzor University was a famous medieval Armenian educational and scientific institution.
JERMOUK – is about 173 km from Yerevan and is located on the upper slopes of the Arpa River. It is a small resort town in the region of favorable mountainous climatic conditions, with cool summer and mild winters. This is site of the mineral springs that produces Jermouk water that is popular throughout the country. Jermouk is situated at 2100 meters above sea level and is surrounded by woods and alpine meadows.
GNDEVANK – “Vayots Dzor,, was a ring without a stone, I cut and set that stone in the ring” , said Princess Sophia, the founder of Gndaevank in 936. The monastery is a true marvel in that mountainous region. Gndevank is situated not far from the Jermouk Spa, on the left side of the River Arpa valley, in a beautiful landscape.
